Watkinsville - Oconee County extends an open invitation to the local and surrounding communities to attend The Oconee County Annual Independence Day Celebration on July 3rd from 10am to 2pm on the grounds of the Eagle Tavern. This patriotic event is sure to remind us of our heritage with a live performance by The James Hunter Band, All-American activities and good eats.

We invite families to take part in another year of great activities such as; a watermelon eating contest, inflatable moon walk, petting zoo, and an old timey dress up. You may watch as metal takes shape with a live working blacksmith and/or learn how sweep someone off their feet with old fashion handmade brooms. Bring your appetite for a good time and great food! We’ll offer American classics like homemade peach ice cream from Thomas Orchard and hand spun cotton candy. So let the smell of great barbeque be your invitation to come join us in celebrating this year’s Declaration at the Oconee County Annual Independence Day Celebration.

To show support of Oconee County heritage, the Rev. John Andrew Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will have a "Happy Birthday America" cake. This huge patriotic cake, baked by Take the Cake in Winterville, will be cut at 12 (Noon) on the steps of the Eagle Tavern. Children of all ages are encouraged to stop by the booth for free cake! The Watkinsville chapter, lead by Regent Dana Anderson, promotes patriotism, education and historic preservation. To help fund these programs, the chapter will have a raffle drawing for a Dinner for Two courtesy of Watkinsville's Mirko Pasta at the event.

The Oconee County Son’s of the American Revolution will also attend in period style attire to educate people and answer question about life during the year of our Independence.

If you would like more information on the Independence Day Celebration or any other events in the area please contact Justin Martin at (706) 310-3612 or e-mail jmartin@oconee.ga.us
